Title A power - controlled MAC supporting service differentiation inmobile
نویسندگان
چکیده
The original power controlled multiple access (PCMA) protocol does not support service differentiation. In this paper, we extend PCMA to form a new media access control protocol supporting service differentiation in mobile ad hoc networks. To support QoS, we first introduce the in-station access category concept in 802.11e to PCMA. For service differentiation between access categories, our major contribution is to propose a senderinitiated busy tone based mechanism that allows a user to gain quick channel access. This quick access mechanism is only performed when the number of access failures exceeds a threshold. An access category with higher priority is assigned a lower threshold for easier channel access, and vice versa. Through analysis and simulation, we demonstrate that our protocol can provide better quality of service than 802.1le in terms of throughput, delay, loss, and fairness.

متن کاملSupporting service differentiation in wireless packet networks using distributed control
This paper investigates differentiated services in wireless packet networks using a fully distributed approach that supports service differentiation, radio monitoring and admission control. While our proposal is generally applicable to distributed wireless access schemes, we design, implement and evaluate our framework within the context of existing wireless technology. Service differentiation ...
متن کاملMAC scheduling policies with reduced power consumption and bounded packet delays for centrally controlled TDD wireless networks
In networks with mobile nodes, power consumption is an important constraint due to the limited battery power available at the mobile nodes. Reduction of power consumption in mobile devices can be achieved by keeping these devices in a low power (standby) mode during periods of inactivity. This may, however, result in increased end-to-end delays leading to violation of the Quality of Service (Qo...
متن کاملPerformance Analysis of an Enhanced IEEE 802.11 Distributed Coordination Function Supporting Service Differentiation
As one of the fastest growing wireless access technologies, Wireless LANs (WLANs) must evolve to support adequate degrees of service differentiation. Unfortunately, current WLAN standards like IEEE 802.11 Distributed Coordination Function (DCF) lack this ability. Work is in progress to define an enhanced version capable of supporting QoS for multimedia traffic at the MAC layer. In this paper, w...
متن کاملService Differentiation based on Contention Window with Enhanced Collision Resolution LR-WPANs
The IEEE 802.15.4 MAC [1] standard defines the channel access for low-rate, low-power communication applications such as Wireless Sensor Networks but does not differentiate between high or low priority data. We study few priority based service differentiation mechanisms which distinguish between such data for each and every device, and also let high priority have better channel access as compar...
